June 2007

Older?
Willi, our oldest, turned 19 this year on June 20th. Friends flew all the way from Washington state to help celebrate this special day for Willi! Willi had his German birthday party on Friday with a bunch of his friends.

Wiser?
2007-06-20_Willi-Geburtstag 023Stefan, our second son decided to play Superman and leap from a tall statue downtown Dresden on June 20th. Yes, Willi‘s birthday! He jumped about 7 feet and landed twisting his left ankle underneath him. It swelled immediately with a protruding object out of one side and we thought it was dislocated. Willi and his friend, Taylor formed a human chair and carried Stefan about a mile back to the car and we took him to the ER. Three hours of waiting on the Drs to get out of surgery, we find out he only had a fractured ankle. Kathleen even got to help put on the cast, as they were short on nurses that evening. He only had to have the solid cast for 5 days. He now has an „air-boot“, so he can get around and go back to school. Our children, who are in the German Schools, go to school until July 20th this year and then they will have 6 weeks for summer vacation.

Scarier?
William‘s Dad turned 64 on June 18th, so we called to wish him a happy birthday. We did not get a hold of him that evening, so we figured he was out celebrating with his other children and grandchildren. Needless to say, William‘s brother contacted us a day later and informed us that Dad was in the hospital with a blood clot in his leg. The Doctors were very concerned, especially because of his poor circulation due to the MS. They gave him blood thinning shots until his blood was down to where they wanted it to be and then put him on coumadin. After a week, he was back home again. He has a nurse that comes to the house several times a week and a therapist that is working with him to get up and around more.
